See yourself.

When we repeat the same routines, over and over, our minds get less and less exposure to the outside world. To new ideas. To new lessons. To new ways of learning about the world.

But people, with the help of our empathy and our imaginations, allow us to see ourselves. And, to see ourselves anew.

When someone talks, they say words. They make noises with their face, and make gestures with their hands and ears and tongue.

They go ooo ooo aaa aaa, and we understand them.

“… yes, a great bunda indeed – thank you for telling me, sir.”

But what does this mean? What does this tell us about the nature of language?

I think sounds don’t really matter. Nor do the words.

I think it’s the meanings that really matter.

It’s the meanings that we are trying to convey, decipher and interpret between one another.

So, through their speech, we are able to understand what a person means.

How they interpret the world.

How they observe themselves.

And how they observe us.

And on the off chance that you've let someone in... in to your life, to your circle, to your trust… you might let them in enough for them to tell you things that might crush you. Things that you might need to hear.

You will essentially be putting your face to the fire, with the burning hot coals against your skin, and telling the world to “give it your best shot”. Because I can handle it.

That’s what it means to be seen.

Let yourself be seen. Let other people see you.

And you just might be able to see yourself.
